Simple Excel Upload/ Download Times Calculator

A client from Ireland has reached us for the following job:

Need a simple calculator (using Excel, VBA, Online) that will calculate the upload and download times for files over a satellite network. I have the calculation in Excel, but need someone to create a well designed and simple to use calculator.

Input:

• Upload or Download
• File Size (kB)

Output:

• Transfer time in MIN:SEC

Parameters:

• Upload- (22kbit)
• Download (88kbit)
• File Size (USER ENTERED)
• Transfer Time (min:sec)

Example:

• 22kbit per sec = 22/8 = 2.75k Bytes/s (2.75kB/s)
• To find the time for 1,000kB  file (1M)
• 1,000 / 2.75 = 364 seconds = 6 Min 4 Sec.
• Upload time for 1M file (1000kB)
• 88kbit/s, then divide by 8 to get Bytes/sec = 11kB/sec
• 1,000 / 11 = 91 secs = 1 minute 31 Sec.

We have used data validation for Upload/ Download selection, while the user enters file size. Transfer time is calculated on the fly in the custom minutes / seconds format.
